How to Prepare Your XPENG for an OTA Software Update

Choose an update window when the car can remain safely parked, locked and unavailable, then meet the requirements on its offered release notice. Finish the necessary charging separately: the cited G6 handbook says the vehicle cannot be used or charged during installation.

How to Prepare Your XPENG for an OTA Software Update — XPENG owner guide

The reservation and 03:00 controls below come from the earlier UK G6 handbook. Other XPENG models need their own update notice.

What to do

  1. For the earlier UK G6, open vehicle settings → General and tap the XOS version number at the top to view the full build. Open System Update or the status-bar update icon to read the offered release notice. These are the cited UK handbook’s controls; another model or interface needs its own supplied instructions.
  2. Park legally where the car can remain unused for the full installation and allow time beyond the estimate. Complete needed charging and remove anything you will need.
  3. Check the offered notice’s battery, connection and locking requirements. On the earlier UK G6, review any reserved time and the optional 03:00 Auto Update setting so it does not conflict with an essential charging window.
  4. For that earlier UK G6, tap Reserve Update on the offered update notice, choose the unused period and tap OK; the car must be locked at that time. A reservation can be cancelled/rescheduled before installation starts; after it begins, follow its completion instructions.
  5. After completion, confirm the new full build and check profiles, mirrors, phone connections/calls, navigation, charge limits/schedules, cameras and changed assistance settings while parked.

What to expect: The car reports completion and the intended build; the functions needed for the next journey and charge are checked before use.

Do not leave anyone dependent on vehicle access or climate during an update. Do not use a vehicle after a failed installation, interrupt its power, force a restart, install an unofficial package or attempt a rollback.

If that did not work

Separate no offer, failed download and failed installation. If installation fails, follow the exact displayed permitted Retry; if it fails again or important controls remain unavailable, give XPENG the error, versions, time and charge level and ask for the recovery action and whether assistance is needed. No update offered requires an eligibility/rollout check, not a forced installation.

You do not need to record extra details after a successful installation. Save the error/version details when a failure or changed behaviour needs support. The earlier UK G6’s reservation and 03:00 option are edition-specific, not a default recommendation for every XPENG.

Preparation controls for other exact XPENG editions

  • P7+ 2026 English handbook, V5.9.5: open General, tap the XOS version for the full build, then open System Update or its status-bar icon. For an offered package use Schedule Update → choose time → Confirm; use Cancel Schedule before installation begins if that time no longer works. Update Now → Confirm starts the immediate route only after the notice’s conditions are met.
  • Original P7, 2023 English handbook: open the status-bar XPENG logo or About → Xmart OS. Read View Details, then Upgrade to new version → choose time → Confirm the update schedule. Before starting, Appointment details → Change upgrade time reschedules. Its optional Nightly automatic upgrade installs at 03:00; it is not the same menu as P7+.
  • G9 2025 English handbook, V5.6.0: read the installed version under vehicle controls → General and open the car’s offered update notice. Its documented prerequisites are more than 10% charge, P and a safe parking location. The car cannot be used or charged during installation. Use the notice’s actual confirmation/scheduling controls; this handbook does not establish universal button labels.

MY26 X9: choose an update time

These controls are from the MY26 English RHD X9 handbook for V5.8.5. Use this sequence when your car matches that edition and the offered update; the model name or registration year alone does not establish the interface.

  1. Check the installed build and the offer. Open Settings → General and tap the XOS version number at the top for the full build. Keep the vehicle connected to the network. When a package is offered, tap the update icon in the top status bar to open its options.
  2. Prepare the car first. This handbook requires more than 10% charge, P and a safe parking place. Meet any stricter requirement in the actual update notice. Finish charging beforehand and allow enough time for installation, when the car cannot be used or charged.
  3. Choose when it can be unavailable. Tap Schedule update and set a suitable time; the car must be locked at that time for the automatic start. Use Update now only when you are ready for installation to begin immediately.
  4. Check the overnight setting. Under General → Update Settings, the optional automatic-update setting can start a newly available package at 03:00 without another manual confirmation. Leave it off if that period is needed for charging or an essential journey.
  5. Wait for completion, then check the result. Once installation starts it cannot be stopped. After the car reports completion, reopen the full XOS version and check the functions needed for your next journey. If installation reports failure, do not drive; use its displayed Retry once. If it fails again, use the failure branch above with the exact error and build.

No update icon? First check the vehicle’s network connection. If the connection works but there is still no offered package, keep using the installed version; the preparation controls cannot make an unoffered update available.

If you cannot meet the conditions: keep a future reservation outside the needed driving/charging period, or cancel it before installation starts. Charge beforehand when the displayed battery condition is not met. If no package is offered, keep the vehicle connected and use the installed software normally; a preparation checklist cannot assign a release.
