G6 roof bars and boxes: fitment checks for the 2025 RHD handbook

The G6 described in the 2025 English RHD handbook has roof-rack mounting interfaces and a stated 75 kg maximum load capacity. Match your car to that edition and use a rack kit approved for its exact generation and mounting points before buying bars or a box.

Source: G6 2025 English RHD handbook, V5.8.0 interface edition, printed pages 285-286 / PDF pages 287-288. A later New G6 or a different roof layout needs its own stated limit and fitment; this page does not assign it the older handbook's capacity.

The handbook illustration above locates the roof interfaces; it does not approve a rack kit. Match the car and kit before fitting.

Do not drive with an unverified, loose, damaged or overloaded setup. Keep the carrier off the glass and use only the mounting arrangement approved for the matching car and kit; a roof load also changes clearance and handling.

Choose and check the setup

  1. Identify the actual G6 generation and roof arrangement. Compare the covered mounting interfaces in the illustration with the car. A flush-looking roof is not proof that a universal door-clamp kit is suitable.
  2. Obtain the rack maker's exact fitment and kit part numbers for that car and mounting type. Check that all feet, fasteners, covers and fitting instructions are present. Keep the selected box within the permitted bar spacing and attachment arrangement.
  3. Make a weight list for the bars, box and everything going inside. For example, 6 kg of bars plus an 18 kg box plus 40 kg of contents is a 64 kg loaded roof setup. Compare each vehicle, rack and box limit on its stated basis; the handbook's 75 kg figure is not permission to exceed a lower component limit or assume 75 kg of contents is available. Include the roof setup when checking the vehicle payload too.
  4. Fit only through the matched kit's specified mounting sequence and tightening settings. Different rack systems use different tightening values. If the kit does not identify your car or the interfaces do not match, stop before fitting or driving and resolve that mismatch.
  5. Measure the total vehicle height with the bars and loaded box fitted, and compare it with the actual garage or car-park barrier before approaching. While parked, check that the tailgate can open without hitting the box; move the box only within its approved mounting positions.
  6. Secure the contents and check the rack, feet and box before departure and regularly as the supplied instructions require. The G6 handbook requires secure, undamaged roof rails and the interface covers closed when no rack is fitted. Remove the load and rack normally before refitting those covers.

What a useful check gives you

You have an identified car and rack kit, a recorded loaded weight within the applicable limits, secure mounting and known roof/tailgate clearance. The 64 kg example is arithmetic for planning, not approval of a particular rack, box or later G6.

If the fitment or limit is unclear

Keep the parts off the car until the rack supplier can match the exact G6 generation, roof interface and kit part numbers in its written fitment. Give them a clear photo of the mounting arrangement and the vehicle/handbook edition. Ask specifically which feet and fixing kit are required, how the loaded-weight limits are counted, and which fitting instructions apply. An accessory labelled only "G6" is not enough to resolve a generation mismatch.

If the carrier moves, makes new contact with the body or glass, or a fitting becomes loose, stop safely and secure/remove it before continuing. A larger roof box is not a way to bypass vehicle payload or component limits.

Weight arithmetic and clearance checks are planning aids; the matched rack kit supplies its fitting sequence.
