XPENG G6 Cold-Weather Charging: Preconditioning, Power and UK Planning

On the earlier UK G6, open vehicle controls → Charging and Discharging → Charging and enable Temperature Control before Fast Charging. Set the fast-charging station as the destination in the car’s own navigation so the battery can be heated or cooled during the journey; warming the cabin is a different function.

XPENG G6 cold-weather charging and battery-preconditioning planning

The original UK handbook documents this automatic navigation route on printed page 243 (PDF 244). The 2025 international English RHD handbook also documents it on printed 309–310 (PDF 311–312), and adds the separate manual/voice control described below. Match the screen and supplied edition; a registration year alone does not identify the software layout.

Prepare for the charging stop

  1. Choose a reachable compatible fast charger. Check availability and an alternative, leaving enough energy for the journey and reserve. Preparation uses some of the battery’s remaining energy.
  2. While parked, check the switch. In the matching edition, open vehicle settings → Charging and Discharging → Charging and turn on Temperature Control before Fast Charging.
  3. Navigate to the charging station on the central screen. The handbook describes battery heating or cooling during that navigation to bring it towards the charging-temperature range. On the separately documented 2025 international RHD interface, a familiar station without navigation can also use the manual/voice “Battery temperature preconditioning now” control. The earlier UK procedure here is to enable the switch and navigate to the fast-charging station.
  4. At the charger, confirm energy is flowing. Check charging status, elapsed time and increasing kWh rather than expecting the peak immediately. Start percentage, unit capability and shared supply still affect the result.

You should see: the selected preparation setting retained on the matching screen, followed by an active charging session. The setting is not a promise of a particular kW figure or a fixed stop duration.

If the control is missing, will not enable, or charging stays slow

  • No matching control: check your supplied handbook and ask XPENG for the preconditioning route for your exact generation/full XOS. Do not substitute the AC departure-preheating menu; the separate guide below explains that task.
  • The matching control will not enable: note the on-screen explanation and check the stated prerequisites in that handbook. Give XPENG the message and full model/build if it remains unavailable; repeated toggling is not a repair.
  • Charging works but is repeatedly slow: check the connector rating and battery percentage first. Around 80% and above, slower charging is expected; stay if you need that extra range or finish normally if you have enough.

At a lower charge level after preparation, compare one other available compatible unit. If it is faster, continue there; if it is not, stop swapping sockets and compare a later suitable site under similar conditions.

If the pattern follows the car, give XPENG the preparation method, temperatures, percentages and session energy/time, and request a thermal/charging-performance assessment.

Follow charging or stop warnings; damage, abnormal heat or a high-voltage warning needs appropriate assistance. Do not repeatedly restart a warned session or reduce your reserve to chase peak power.

Source reviewed 24 October 2026: G6 2025 international English RHD handbook, PDF 311–312 / printed 309–310, available through XPENG’s handbook directory. Earlier UK AC departure preheating remains a separate procedure.

Earlier UK automatic fast-charge preparation checked 26 October 2026: original UK G6 handbook, printed 243 (PDF 244). Its navigation-triggered heating/cooling route is also documented; AC-connected departure preheating is a separate function. The manual/voice “Battery temperature preconditioning now” control remains specific to the separately cited 2025 international RHD edition.
