XPENG app using too much mobile data: app or car hotspot?
Check the XPENG app’s mobile-data total separately from Personal Hotspot/Tethering. If the car joined the phone hotspot, its entertainment/navigation or passenger devices can use the phone’s data without that traffic belonging to the XPENG app.

Phone-app data, tethering and the car’s own connection are separate. Android menu labels vary by phone manufacturer.
What to do
On iPhone, open Settings → Mobile Data (also labelled Mobile Service or Cellular), scroll to XPENG and compare its total with Personal Hotspot under the usage list/System Services where shown.
On Google Pixel, open Settings → Network and Internet → Internet → the settings beside your mobile operator → App data usage; choose the date range and XPENG.
Other Android phones use their own Data usage labels. Compare XPENG and hotspot/tethering over the same dates; check when the counters were reset.
- In the car, check whether it automatically joined the phone hotspot and which in-car/passenger apps or devices used it. Check the actual vehicle-connectivity entitlement in the account.
- Note starting totals, switch the hotspot off and leave ordinary app permissions unchanged for a brief period of normal use. Compare both counters afterwards.
- If a phone-key feature must be disabled for a further comparison, use its supported app setting with the physical key available. Change only one setting, then verify vehicle locking and required notifications.
What to expect: High hotspot traffic identifies a different path from XPENG app background traffic; comparable date ranges prevent a false increase.
Do not force-stop or heavily restrict the app when relying on passive entry, walk-away locking or alerts. Keep the physical key available for changes and hide phone/account/vehicle identifiers in support screenshots.
If that did not work
For high app traffic, update the official app, restart the phone once and give XPENG redacted app/hotspot totals, period, phone/OS/app/full XOS and relevant in-car use. Ask the mobile network for itemised usage if the source remains unclear. Confirm actual UK connectivity terms before buying any replacement service.
Included connectivity and subscription terms vary by market, model and purchase date. Check the account’s current entitlement rather than assuming every increase means expiry.
