Build a like-for-like XPENG quote sheet
Choose the exact generation, battery, trim, delivery assumption, term and annual mileage first. An older G6 and revised G6 are not the same quote simply because the badge matches. For each offer write down the following, using the provider’s written figures rather than an advertised example.
- Money leaving you: upfront amount, number and amount of payments, fees and anything excluded such as insurance, servicing, tyres and charging.
- End position: car returned, car owned or a loan still outstanding. For PCP ownership, include the optional final purchase payment; do not count on future equity.
- Change of plan: request the early-exit or settlement terms, mileage/condition charges and what happens after a write-off. A return does not automatically cancel the financial obligation.
- Employment changes: for salary sacrifice ask payroll for your actual net-pay illustration and how leaving, absence or changed hours affect the agreement. Confirm included cover and pension/statutory-pay treatment.
Salary sacrifice changes contractual cash pay in return for a benefit. An electric car is not automatically tax-free: HMRC’s normal benefit rules apply to qualifying low-emission cars. Do not substitute a generic percentage saving for payroll’s illustration.
PCP normally requires its optional final payment to become the owner. PCH is hire with return rather than an assumed purchase option. With a personal loan used to buy the car, selling the car does not remove the separate loan debt; cash avoids borrowing interest but ties up savings and leaves resale risk with you.
What if two offers still look different?
First separate included services from finance, then compare the same ownership outcome. Keep uncertain future resale values and possible excess-mileage charges as separate assumptions. If a fee, tax treatment or exit term is unclear, get a written explanation before signing; this guide does not recommend a lender or calculate your personal tax.
HMRC: salary sacrifice; MoneyHelper: PCP; MoneyHelper: PCH.
Questions worth answering before you decide
- What is the total cost across the full term?
- Which services and insurance are included?
- What happens if I leave my employer or need to exit early?
- Who carries depreciation and resale risk?
- What are the mileage and condition charges?
- Will the agreement affect pension, benefits or borrowing?
Compare the routes, not just the monthly payment
Salary sacrifice can bundle costs but depends on employer rules and tax treatment. PCP has a final payment and mileage conditions. Leasing does not normally leave you with the car. A loan or cash purchase gives you ownership but exposes you to resale risk. Compare the full agreement, not one headline figure.
