Quick answer
The X9 has a model-specific first step: pull and hold the driver-side handle for 10 seconds to wake the locked low-voltage battery, unlock with the key, then press the brake within one minute to power on and let the vehicle charge it. This is not the same as the G6, G9 or P7+ route.
Before you start
Have the physical key ready. Stop after a collision, flood exposure, smoke, heat, chemical smell or visible cable damage. Read the exact X9 Emergency Rescue pages before opening any repair cover.
- Correct physical key is present.
- Vehicle is in a safe, ventilated location.
- No high-voltage warning or damage is visible.
- Driver-side handle can be accessed safely.
What to do
Before you start, read the complete sequence. Follow these steps in order and stop if the vehicle shows a stronger warning than the one described here.
- Pull the driver-side handle and hold it for 10 seconds to request the documented battery wake-up.
- Unlock with the key. Within one minute, sit in the driver seat and press the brake pedal to power on.
- If it wakes, leave the vehicle in the normal powered condition long enough to restore low-voltage support and note every warning.
- If repeated handle wake-up attempts fail, stop and open the handbook’s X9-specific recovery section. Do not substitute G6/G9 jump-start instructions.
- Contact XPENG support or roadside assistance and describe the failed 10-second handle wake-up and last known traction-battery state.
Expected result
You should expect the following result when the documented route is successful: The key unlocks the X9 after the handle wake-up, and pressing the brake within one minute powers the vehicle so its system can support the low-voltage battery. A repeat event still needs diagnosis.
If it still does not work
Do not improvise with unmarked terminals or conventional jump leads. The X9 handbook contains strict and potentially confusing restrictions around external supply and jump-starting; roadside or trained service support is the safe next route after the documented wake-up fails.
Safety and model boundary
The handbook warns against unauthorised battery removal/modification, reverse polarity, using the X9 to jump-start another car and contact with flames or static. Never touch high-voltage components. Vehicle labels and trained support take priority over online diagrams.
Official handbook evidence
XPENG X9 2025-RHD User Manual, PDF pages 362–364, “Jump start”. This guide deliberately limits owner action to the preceding documented wake-up sequence.
What to record before asking for help
Write down the model, model year, current XOS version and the time the problem occurred. Add the exact display wording, the last action that worked and the outcome of each safe check above. For charging issues include the charger type and its indicator; for access issues include the key method used. Do not include a VIN, registration, account password, PIN or verification code in a public post.
Why this matters: menu names, hardware and behaviour can change with market, model year and XOS version. Record the exact wording shown by the car before contacting support. That gives a service adviser a reproducible symptom instead of a general description.
