The X9 is likely to carry several occupants and several phones, so connection priority matters as much as pairing. Work out whether the wrong media phone, the wrong user profile or a failed phone key is the real problem.
Before you start
Remain parked and keep the supplied physical key available. Ask occupants to switch off Bluetooth temporarily on devices that should not connect during the test. Do not change connection settings while manoeuvring or driving.
Do this in order
- Identify the failed job: calls, audio, projection, profile login, vehicle unlock or drive authorisation.
- Open Device Connection → Connected → Bluetooth on the central display and inspect the paired-device list.
- Where available, mark the intended device as frequently used so the X9 gives it priority after unlocking.
- For a corrupt calls or media pairing, remove that profile from both car and phone, restart both, pair again and approve the appropriate permissions.
- Manage phone-key activation in the XPENG app. The X9 manual distinguishes key Bluetooth from media Bluetooth and says the phone key connects automatically rather than through the central-display pairing list.
- Re-test with the family’s other phones switched back on one at a time to confirm that priority remains correct.
If that did not solve it
- Keep the XPENG app running in the background where required for key behaviour.
- Review battery optimisation and nearby-device permissions on the phone.
- Check whether the intended user account is logged into the vehicle.
- Compare wired and wireless projection before removing additional profiles.
What success looks like
The intended phone is selected predictably, the correct occupant profile loads, calls and audio use the expected device and phone-key operation survives a normal leave-and-return cycle.
Prepare a useful support handover
Do not keep repeating resets or changing unrelated settings. Record the following while the symptom is fresh:
- Record the list of phones present and which one connected first.
- Save X9 model year, XOS, phone operating system and app version.
- Describe each working and failing service separately.
Keep passwords, verification codes, precise location history and unrelated personal information out of screenshots or messages.
Exact-car and safety boundary
Do not remove the only working access method from a shared vehicle. Connection range and behaviour vary with phone hardware, obstructions, interference, permissions and software.

Other ways owners describe this
X9 Bluetooth not pairing, wrong phone connects, family phone takes over, X9 phone key offline, Bluetooth music missing, CarPlay not connecting.
