Begin with one simple supported command while parked. Voice failure can come from the wake setting, selected language, dialogue mode, network-dependent service, cabin noise or the system identifying a different speaking position.
Before you start
Do not repeat complicated commands while driving or stare at the screen for a response. Park, close doors and windows, reduce loud media and check that no emergency or safety warning needs attention first.
Do this in order
- Press the steering-wheel voice button and try a basic local command such as changing cabin temperature. This separates wake-word detection from the assistant itself.
- Open Voice Assistant settings and confirm that Hey XPENG is enabled, the intended language pack is selected and any download has completed.
- Check dialogue mode. A short or single-turn mode expects the wake phrase again; a longer or multi-turn mode may keep listening after the first action.
- Try the command in plain words without several tasks joined together. Use the site Voice Commands directory to find a documented category and example.
- If local cabin controls work but music, information or navigation requests fail, check vehicle network status. The manuals note that some conversational services depend on connectivity while basic controls can remain available.
- If the wrong window, seat or climate zone responds, repeat from the normal seated position and record which occupant location the car appears to identify.
If that did not solve it
- Test steering-wheel activation and wake word separately.
- Confirm microphone openings are not covered by an accessory.
- Check whether the issue began after a language, profile or XOS change.
- Try a second simple local command before restarting or escalating.
What success looks like
A simple local command responds from both the steering-wheel button and enabled wake word, the correct cabin zone acts and network-dependent requests recover when connectivity is available.
Prepare a useful support handover
Do not keep repeating resets or changing unrelated settings. Record the following while the symptom is fresh:
- Write the exact phrase and response rather than “voice does not work”.
- Record model, model year, XOS, language and dialogue-mode setting.
- Note seat position, cabin noise and whether local versus online commands behave differently.
Keep passwords, verification codes, precise location history and unrelated personal information out of screenshots or messages.
Exact-car and safety boundary
Command wording and supported functions vary by model, language and XOS. Voice control reduces screen interaction but does not remove the driver’s responsibility to remain attentive.

Other ways owners describe this
Hey XPENG not working, voice command ignored, wrong window opens, assistant cannot hear me, voice says unavailable, wake word stopped, steering voice button.
