A connector that remains locked is usually still being held by the chargepoint, the vehicle lock or an unfinished charging state. Do not twist, lever or pull hard. End the energy transfer first, then work through the normal unlock route before considering the emergency control.
Before you start
Keep the vehicle parked and make sure nobody can restart the session. If there is heat, smoke, a burning smell, visible damage, liquid, arcing or a red charging warning, move people away and contact the chargepoint operator, roadside assistance or emergency services as appropriate.
Do this in order
- Stop charging using the same place that started it: the vehicle, XPENG app or chargepoint. Wait for both the car and post to show that the session has ended.
- Unlock the vehicle normally. If it relocks, unlock it again and listen for the connector-lock mechanism before applying only gentle straight pressure to the plug.
- Check the chargepoint screen or app for a second release, stop or return-cable instruction. A public unit may keep its own latch engaged after the car has released.
- If the plug remains locked, open Charging and Discharging → Charging on the central display and use Charging Connector Emergency Unplugging exactly as described by the P7+ manual.
- The manual also documents a physical release behind a luggage-compartment service panel. Treat that as an emergency route, not a routine shortcut, and follow the illustrated handbook procedure for the exact car.
If that did not solve it
- Confirm whether the vehicle still says charging, scheduled charging, charging heating or connected.
- Try the normal lock–unlock sequence once; repeated rapid attempts can make the state harder to understand.
- Ask the public-chargepoint operator to end and release the session remotely when its screen still shows the connector as occupied.
- If the release works but sticks again, stop relying on emergency release and arrange inspection of the inlet, plug and locking pin.
What success looks like
The session is shown as ended, the lock releases without force, the plug withdraws straight and the inlet and pins show no heat damage, distortion or contamination. Close the dust cover and port door after checking them.
Prepare a useful support handover
Do not keep repeating resets or changing unrelated settings. Record the following while the symptom is fresh:
- Photograph the vehicle and chargepoint messages before they disappear.
- Record AC or DC, network/operator, connector type and whether charging had actually started.
- Note model year, XOS version, battery percentage and which release step worked.
Keep passwords, verification codes, precise location history and unrelated personal information out of screenshots or messages.
Exact-car and safety boundary
Emergency release must not be used while power is still flowing. Never put tools into the inlet, dismantle high-voltage components or continue using damaged charging equipment.
