Quick answer
Do not pull a parked G6 wiper arm up from its normal resting position. Put the vehicle in P, leave the wipers off and use Front or Rear Wiper Maintenance Mode on the central display. The arms move to a position where they can be lifted without striking bodywork.
Before you start
Park securely, close the bonnet/front compartment and driver door fully, switch the wipers off and protect the windscreen with a folded towel. Buy the exact blade for the correct side and model year; the front and rear fittings are not interchangeable.
- Vehicle is in P and cannot roll.
- Wipers and automatic rain wiping are off.
- Front compartment lid and driver door are fully closed.
- Replacement blade length and connector match the removed blade.
What to do
Before you start, read the complete sequence. Follow these steps in order and stop if the vehicle shows a stronger warning than the one described here.
- On the central control screen open Vehicle, then enable Front Wiper Maintenance Mode or Rear Wiper Maintenance Mode.
- Wait until the selected arm stops in its service position before touching it.
- Lift the arm gently. For the front blade, press the locking buttons and pull the blade backwards; for the rear, release the side locks and remove it upward as shown in the handbook.
- Fit the new blade in the reverse direction until it clicks. Tug it lightly to confirm the lock has engaged.
- Lower the arm gently onto the glass, then switch maintenance mode off and watch it return to its normal position.
Expected result
You should expect the following result when the documented route is successful: The blade sits squarely, the connector is locked and the arm returns without contacting the bonnet or trim. Test with washer fluid at low speed. The wipe should be clean and quiet, without skipping or leaving a broad unwiped band.
If it still does not work
If the menu option is unavailable, recheck P, door/bonnet closure and wiper-off status. Do not force the arm. If a new blade is loose, clashes with trim, judders severely or the motor does not return the arm, refit the old blade if safe and contact a retailer or qualified technician.
Safety and model boundary
The instructions apply to the 2025 right-hand-drive G6 handbook. A different model year or wiper assembly may use another connector. Never let the bare metal arm spring back onto the glass, and never enter maintenance mode while someone is holding an arm.
