XPENG G6 Regenerative Braking and One-Pedal Driving: What the UK Car Actually Does

Regeneration slows the G6 and returns energy to the battery, but keep the brake pedal as your way to complete a precise stop and respond when more braking is needed. On the earlier UK G6, change the energy-recovery level under Drive; the same setting can feel weaker with a cold or nearly full battery.

The Drive-menu and AutoHold instructions here follow the earlier UK G6 handbook. Match your car’s handbook before using a different software layout.

What to do

  1. Choose the energy-recovery setting while parked using the matching Drive menu. Check it again after an XOS update before relying on familiar behaviour.
  2. During a normal suitable journey, lift the accelerator progressively and pay attention to traffic. Learn the response with a large margin rather than watching the energy display.
  3. Use the brake whenever the vehicle is not slowing enough or needs a precise stop. A different battery charge/temperature can change the regeneration available.
  4. For AutoHold, open vehicle settings → Drive and switch AutoHold on while parked. With the driver’s door closed, belt fastened and D/R/N selected, bring the car to a complete stop using the brake, then press the brake firmly to activate holding. Release the brake only after the AutoHold indicator lights on the instrument display. If it does not light, keep the brake applied; simply switching the setting on has not confirmed that the car is held.
  5. Remember that the accelerator releases AutoHold, and opening the door/unfastening the belt switches this edition to the electronic parking brake. Use the documented brake/hold/Park arrangement for the actual situation.

What to expect: The selected recovery level is understood without relying on it for every stop, and AutoHold is confirmed separately on the display before brake release.

Keep ready to brake and allow extra margin for cold, wet or slippery conditions. Do not rely on regeneration to hold a slope, and do not recreate abnormal braking to obtain evidence.

If that did not work

Ask XPENG to check a setting that cannot be selected or repeatedly changes, giving full XOS, charge, temperature and exact warning. Abnormal pedal feel, pulling or a brake/high-voltage warning needs qualified inspection rather than a regeneration-setting experiment.

The earlier handbook’s X-Pedal mode reduces brake use but does not replace the brake pedal. Strong regenerative deceleration can illuminate brake lights; this does not remove the driver’s responsibility for stopping distance.
