Why cool air does not always mean a fault

Cool airflow with a high target temperature can result from the selected climate mode, cabin conditions, demisting, energy management or the system needing time after a cold start. It can also indicate a genuine heating fault.

Checks to make while safely parked

  1. Confirm that the vehicle is fully ready, rather than only powering accessories.
  2. Make sure the climate system is on and the fan is not set to zero.
  3. Turn off ventilation-only or manual settings that may prevent automatic heating.
  4. Select a clearly warmer target temperature and direct air to an open vent.
  5. Check whether demisting, energy saving or separate-zone settings are changing the airflow.
  6. Allow several minutes after a cold start, then test more than one vent.
  7. Restart the climate system once and record any warning exactly as shown.

Expected result: the delivered air should begin moving toward the selected temperature after the system has had reasonable time to respond. Automatic control and demisting can change airflow without indicating a fault.

When professional diagnosis is needed

Book support if all vents remain cold on repeated journeys, the windscreen cannot be kept clear, heat disappears after an update, or there is an unusual noise, smell or warning. Do not dismantle refrigerant or high-voltage heating equipment.
