Identify where the quiet audio begins
- Park and make a normal handset call without CarPlay.
- Record a voice memo to test the phone microphones.
- Reconnect CarPlay and call the same person with windows closed and fan speed low.
- Confirm the call uses the vehicle audio route rather than the handset, earbuds or another Bluetooth device.
- Test another calling app and, if available, another compatible phone.
Rebuild only the affected connection
- Check microphone permission for the calling app.
- Confirm the active input and audio route.
- Delete and recreate the affected phone pairing.
- Restart both phone and vehicle connection before retesting.
Interpret the comparison
If handset calls and voice memos are also quiet, focus on the phone, case or permissions. If only one app is affected, update that app. If several phones are quiet only through the G6, the vehicle microphone path or XOS integration is the stronger lead.
Evidence for support
Provide phone model, OS version, wired/wireless connection, apps tested, XOS version and second-phone result. Do not record another person without permission, and never adjust the phone while driving.
Isolate the microphone path before changing more settings
Make three short parked tests with the same phone and contact: a normal Bluetooth call, a CarPlay call and a voice memo or phone call outside the vehicle. Do not troubleshoot while driving.
- If every test is quiet, check the phone microphone, case, permissions and network first.
- If Bluetooth is clear but CarPlay is quiet, remove the phone from both the car and phone connection lists, restart both devices and pair again.
- If another compatible phone works normally, focus on the original phone’s permissions, software and connection profile.
- If two phones are quiet only in the vehicle, note whether wired and wireless CarPlay behave differently.
Before contacting support, save the G6 model year, XOS version, phone model, phone operating-system version, wired/wireless method and results of all three comparisons. Never send passwords, verification codes or personal call recordings.
